In what could only be described as one of the biggest wastes of time on the Internet today, a Spider-Man Remastered modder got banned over a mod that removes LGBT flags from the game.
Not long after the “Non-Newtonian New York” mod was published, it raised quite a fuss over as it replaced LGBT Pride flags in the game and replaces them with American Flags.
Far be it from me to tell you what to spend your time and energy getting upset over but this is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever witnessed in my time covering video games.
If someone wants to make a mod that removes something from a videogame that is a single player experience like Spider-Man Remastered, they should be allowed to do so, I don’t care how they do it, I don’t care what they do it to.
As one of the openly LGBTQIA members of the Niche Gamer staff, I could not care less if those flags were or were not in your game up until today. In fact, I am 25 hours into the game since it released on PC on Friday (I have an addiction), and just found out that the flags were in the game in the first place.
As of right now, the maker of the Spider-Man Remastered mod has been banned from Nexus Mods, with a rep from the mod portal confirming the user and the mod have been removed and banned as they are “no longer welcome on Nexus.”
For those who are cheering this on or are upset, I can only make a few suggestions for you. Please, I recommend you spend that energy doing something else, anything else. Make a box of Mac & Cheese, go for a walk. Go lay outside in the grass and admire the sky and clouds, read a book.
There are million and one different things that you can be doing right now that would be more useful to you and the world around you over wasting your time giving a damn about such a stupid story. For God’s sake, go lift a weight.
Spider-Man Remastered was just released PC (via Steam and Epic Game Store) and PS5 – expect our thorough review shortly.
