Bungie have revealed Lightfall, the start of the end for the story for Destiny 2. The Witness, who was revealed at the end of The Witch Queen, has teamed up with Calus, a Cabal Emperor who has been in the game for a long time and the subject of the most recent season.
The video shows Calus’ new Cabal, the Shadow Legion, who are heading to Neptune where a brand new city, Neomuna has been discovered. It’s not just a city, there is a completely separate race of humans who have been living there, hidden from the rest of the universe. The inhabitants are called Cloudstriders and are rather like Guardians. Unlike the rest of universe the city is vibrant and brand new and has Cyberpunk aesthetic, and Calus has parked his massive ship right above it. There are new enemies called Tormentors and other new enemies that drain your super.
A new super was revealed, Strand, which is a variation of the Darkness super. It seems to give Guardians whips and a grappling hook which they can use to swing around the city. Footage shows the grappling hook being used in a Strike that already exists in the game so it looks like you will be able to bounce around the whole game. The Hunter gets a Rope Dart super, Titans get massive spinning claws, and Warlocks get Strand missiles.
Strand is like a “matrix” that connects everything via a psychic universe, Bungie say it’s like a “third eye” opening, which may hint at a link to Eris Morn who famously has three eyes.
The expansion will be playable in normal and heroic mode, the same as The Witch Queen, as Bungie found many players found the heroic mode more enjoyable.
A big change is that you will be able to save load outs, so you can create and save load outs for Crucible, Raids or whatever you like.
Destiny 2: Lightfall will launch on February 28th 2023 on all formats.
