Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess mentioned the corporate is planning “large strikes” in China.

The world’s second-largest automaker is beefing up operations in its largest market to maintain tempo with fast-growing Chinese language automakers and fast-changing buyer preferences.

“We are going to do some main investments in China,” Diess mentioned in an interview posted Tuesday on LinkedIn. “In just a few years, we can have a number of thousand software program individuals in China.”

Through the interview with Chang Qing, the CEO of CARIAD China, Volkswagen’s in-house automotive software program arm, Diess highlighted Volkswagen’s have to sustain with the Chinese language market and put money into its native operations.

Rising its presence in China will assist Volkswagen reply shortly to modifications within the native market, particularly in two essential areas: autonomous driving know-how and the in-car person expertise, “which in China is basically completely different and complicated,” Diess mentioned.

He cited client demand for audio techniques designed for karaoke, “an inside digital camera to take footage” and streaming capabilities.

“We already got here, just a few years again, to the conclusion that growing this in Europe for China is not going to work,” Diess mentioned. “We’ve to do it there.”
