Expert’s Rating

Pros

  • Bosch Cookit reaches 200C
  • Large mixing bowl with the Cookit
  • The Cookit comes with many accessories

Cons

  • The Cookit has comparatively few recipes
  • Software still causes problems with Cookit
  • Expensive appliance

Our Verdict

The Bosch Cookit is on a par with the Thermomix TM6 in almost all respects. The Cookit can reach a much higher temperature and comes with more accessories as standard. However, the quality of its software and the number of recipes are still a little behind.

Best Prices Today: Thermomix TM6

The Bosch Cookit is one of the better-known and best alternatives to the Thermomix TM6. However, both have a hefty price tag. Occasionally, the Bosch appliance is discounted, but they’re generally available for the sam amount. This naturally raises the question of whether the TM6 is better than the Cookit or vice versa. In this article, we’ll break down each model’s pros and cons.

A plus point for the Bosch Cookit: you can test it for 30 days completely free of charge. Payment by instalments is also possible. However, Vorwerk also often offers favourable instalment payments for the TM6.

Bosch Cookit vs Thermomix TM6: Temperature comparison

Compared to the Thermomix TM6, the Bosch Cookit offers many similar functions – and even some advantages. One outstanding advantage is that the Cookit is able to fry at 200°C, whereas the Thermomix only manages 160°C, and only in guided mode.

To achieve these temperatures, the Bosch Cookit has a heat output of 1,700 watts. This allows you to prepare popcorn or fry a steak in the Cookit, for example, which is not possible in the TM6. The 3D stirrer, which is also not available in the TM6, also helps here.

The Cookit also comes with a wider range of functions and accessories that have to be purchased separately for the Thermomix.

But the Bosch appliance cannot grind, which the Thermomix can do. Also, the TM6 has anti-clockwise rotation, but the Cookit does not.

Both appliances take up a lot of space on the worktop, especially the Bosch appliance. The Cookit measures 31 x 34.5 x 46cm and weighs 13.5kg.

Bosch Cookit vs Thermomix TM6: Software and recipes

Guided cooking is available with the Bosch Cookit with around 3,000 free recipes. It also allows you to create your own recipes.

The Thermomix has well over 80,000 paid recipes, and the number is increasing. However, access to the Thermomix recipes is via Cookidoo, which is a paid subscription (£40/€48 per year).

Vorwerk has its own department which is constantly testing and publishing new recipes for the Thermomix. Nevertheless, there is a lot of positive feedback on the internet about the high-quality recipes of the Bosch Cookit.

The accessories are another advantage of the Bosch Cookit. The twin whisk is only included with the Cookit, and the 3D stirrer can also blend chunky ingredients. There are also chopper blades that can automatically slice up ingredients without the need to prepare them first (unlike the Thermomix). As with the Thermomix, the Bosch also comes with a knife, spatula and steamer attachment.

However, the Cookit software is not yet fully developed. It’s necessary to reset the appliance from time to time and the online search for recipes is much more complicated and error-prone than with the Thermomix. The touchscreen of the Bosch Cookit sometimes lags, which also affects the integrated scales.

The software of the TM6 is almost unrivalled, as it offers a harmonious connection between the appliance and smartphone app, including the option of creating shopping lists and using the appliance and smartphone in parallel. The interaction between software and technology in the Thermomix TM6 is at a level that Bosch has not yet achieved with Cookit.

However, the TM6 display is also a little sluggish in some areas. But the Thermomix has a rotary push button for setting values, which is very helpful when cooking with dirty hands. With the Cookit, everything runs via the display, which is also somewhat smaller.

And while the Thermomix has an excellent, dedicated app, you’ll need to use the Bosch Home Connect app for the Cookit. The app offers far fewer functions than the Thermomix app, whose weekly planning and shopping lists are particularly popular.

Bosch Cookit vs Thermomix TM6: Mixing bowl comparison

The Bosh Cookit’s mixing bowl has a 3 litre volume, while the TM6 has a volume of 2.2 litres. With the Thermomix, the blade always remains part of the mixing bowl and cannot be replaced.

The Cookit offers more variety here, as the blade, twin whisk, 3D beater and chopping disc can be swapped out. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that several variants of mixing inserts also deliver a better result. Vorwerk has the work of the blade/stirring disc in the TM6 perfectly under control. Of course, the Bosch appliance can cut ingredients into slices using the chopping disc, which the TM6 cannot do. However, Vorwerk offers the Thermomix vegetable slicer as an additional accessory.

On the other hand, the TM6 chops more efficiently and finely – right down to grinding flour and coffee. The Cookit can do neither. But Bosch also offers a wide range of other accessories for purchase. Examples include grating discs, Asian slicing discs and more.

Both models offer great functions that will make any cook’s heart beat a little faster. However, they also have a hefty price tag. Cheaper alternatives include the Lidl appliance Silvercrest Monsieur Cuisine Smart and the Tokit Omni Cook.
