The Callisto Protocol has brand new gameplay footage that has been captured on the latest console hardware, with Striking Distance Games going out of its way to show some of the bloody ways death can be dealt to the the mutated monsters that roam the facility. The three minute long footage is split into two parts, the first where the main character faces off against a group of monsters while the second part focuses on a trip down a water tunnel.
In the first part, main character Jacob Lee is armed with a pistol and a power to grab enemies in stasis to throw them or use shields. The pistol is not overly powerful but the grab power definitely has its uses. In the footage, Jacob throws a couple of enemies into a giant grinder in the middle of the room, while also using another enemy as a shield to block an attack. What the footage also shows is that if you do not take out an enemy quickly enough it will mutate to keep attacking Jacob. The second part is all about dodging obstacles as Jacob is washed down a giant water tunnel which has pipes and blades galore. Fail to dodge these and you’ll cause harm to Jacob or worse, kill him.
The setting of The Callisto Protocol is as follows: Set on Jupiter’s “dead moon” Callisto in 2320, The Callisto Protocol is the story of Jacob Lee, an inmate at Black Iron Prison who must fight for his life when a mysterious outbreak throws the moon into chaos. Prison guards and inmates are mutating into monstrous creatures called Biophage, and Jacob must battle to survive the horrors of Black Iron and uncover the dark secrets of the United Jupiter Company.
The Callisto Protocol is set to be released on December 2nd for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
