Sony possibly considering plans for NFTs as hinted by EVO 2022 survey

NFTs continue to be a hot topic and a subject of great interest for many companies. A long list of gaming companies who have dabbled in NFTs and blockchain technology include Ubisoft, Square Enix, and others.

Despite all the interest, there have also been many who oppose the usage of it into their games or business model, like Minecraft developer Mojang or Steam outright banning NFTs from their store.

Now a recent survey given during EVO 2022 has people wondering if Sony might be considering dabbling into the NFT marketplace themselves.

Recently they launched PlayStation Stars, a loyalty program which had some concerned it might be related to NFT craze taking over the industry. They did state that there’s nothing about blockchain technology when it came to the new service.

However, a survey question by them may suggest the company is still interested in using them. The question asks users what of the listed answers are they most interested in purchasing.

The list includes: “Evo-branded”, “Favorite music artists”, “Favorite Esports players/teams”, “PlayStation Items”, and “Favorite Game Characters”. Curiously there is no option to select none of them to continue to move on in the survey.

It’s not certain what this all means at this point. It’s entirely possible that Sony, despite being the owners of EVO, have nothing to do with this survey/question. EVO is also jointly owned by Endeavor, though the listed answers do seem to involve both the EVO and PlayStation brand.

For now, it’s only a matter of wait-and-see, we’ll keep you guys posted.
