PS Plus Extra & Premium September update adds Deathloop, AC Origins & more Classics

Sony has revealed the September update for the PlayStation Plus Extra & Premium game catalogues, all set to be added on 20th September. From Deathloop and Assassin’s Creed Origins to Syphon Filter 2 and The Sly Collection, there’s 17 games in total joining the PS Plus library.

Deathloop is absolutely the highlight here, as one of the biggest and most critically acclaimed PlayStation exclusives from last year – in fact, it will be the game’s first anniversary. Available only on PS5, it builds a cunning timeloop game on the traditional foundations of an Arkane game, and in our glowing 10/10 Deathloop review, Aran said “Deathloop is the kind of game that will get in your head and stay there even when you’re not playing.”

It’s far from the only exemplary game on the list with Assassin’s Creed Origins, Spiritfarer, Watch Dogs 2, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and more.

After a month with no updates, there’s also a bunch of new Classics being added for PS Plus Premium. Syphon Filter 2 is the sole PS1 game, but there’s Toy Story 3 and Kingdom of Paradise from PSP. Subscribers might be feeling a tad shortchanged by this side of PS Plus’ relaunch, given the wealth of both PS1 and PSP games that Sony should be able to choose from.

What are the other PS Plus Free Monthly Games in September?

Long before the PS Plus Extra and Premium catalogue updates, we’ll have a trio of new games added to the PlayStation Plus Essential service. These include Need for Speed Heat, Granblue Fantasy: Versus and TOEM. Find out more about September’s free monthly games here.

What actually is PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium?

The PlayStation Plus relaunch rolled out around the world in June, transforming the PS Plus we once knew into a three tiered subscription service that bundles in and expands what was once PlayStation Now. The classic PS Plus is now called PS Plus Essential, giving access to online multiplayer gaming, cloud save backups, exclusive offers and at least 2 free monthly games. PS Plus Extra then adds a catalogue of PS4 and PS5 games into the mix, while PS Plus Deluxe and Premium (depending on your region) adds older PS2, PS1 and PSP game emulation, and game streaming for PS3 and other titles.

Sony seems to be settling into a rhythm with the PS Plus monthly games for all subscribers rolling out on the first Tuesday of each month, before a library update for the Game Catalogue comes in the middle of the month two weeks later.
