Project CARS and Project CARS 2 are both being delisted from sale, Slightly Mad Studios has announced. The delisting comes due to expiring licenses for both cars and tracks. Slightly Mad confirmed that Project CARS will not be available digitally from October 3rd, while Project CARS 2 will cease being sold digitally from September 21st.

In a statement, Slightly Mad Studios wrote, “Due to expiring car and track licenses, Project CARS and Project CARS 2 will be delisted from sale in the coming months. The games remain fully playable, and our players will still be able to enjoy all the game features, including multiplayer. We will remove Project CARS from sale on October 3rd and Project CARS 2 on September 21st. We remain focused on making the best sim racing titles, and as mentioned previously, we look forward to sharing more on the next Slightly Mad project when the time is right.”

The first Project CARS game was released back in 2015 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It was followed up two years later in 2017 by Project CARS 2 which released on the same platforms. Not to rest on their laurels, Slight Mad Studios then worked on getting the third game in the series out just a few years later in 2020, though that entry failed to hit the highs of the previous two.

Project CARS 3 is not impacted by this license expiry, but it could happen in the future if they are not renewed. In our review for Project Cars 3, Thomas wrote, “Project CARS 3 suffers from a case of mistaken identity. Once you adjust to the new direction, you can get into a fun flow of ticking off objectives, drifting around hairpins and purchasing upgrades. However, while the series’ existing platform means you get a great variety of circuits, cars and weather conditions, it also shackles this game from being a great arcade racing experience.”
