One Piece Odyssey has a release date and that date is January 13th, Bandai Namco has now confirmed. There was a slight expectation that the game would be released by the end of this calendar year, but two weeks out from that is not a long wait. A new trailer to commemorate the release date of One Piece Odyssey has been released too.
In One Piece Odyssey players will be able to switch between the different members of the Straw Hat Crew to take advantage of their unique abilities while traversing the island. Luffy’s unique ability is to use his stretchy arms to reach different areas of the map, Zoro can cut through obstacles, and Chopper can travel through small areas. The battle system is a classic turn based one to allow players to use unique abilities of the crew. There are Scramble Battle Areas in which several battles go on at once with crew members assigned to different enemy groups. Some battles have Dramatic Scenes in which random elements can take place, such as an enemy being more powerful due to the time of day or someone being unable to attack.
Producer Katsuaki Tsuzuki had also previously confirmed that One Piece Odyssey had been in development for over five years, alongside the development of One Piece Pirate Warriors 4. He also confirmed that Eiichiro Oda was involved with the development of the game, creating the new characters Adio and Lim. The island of Waford is where the game takes place, with it having been designed exclusively for One Piece Odyssey, with new creatures for the crew to encounter including the Dry Penguin and the Leviathan.
One Piece Odyssey is set to be released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
