MultiVersus tops 10 million users while still in open beta

It has been an amazing three weeks for MultiVersus. The Warner Bros. licensed party brawler entered open beta less than a month ago and has already reached an amazing milestone.

Since its launch into open beta, MultiVersus has already surpassed 10 million players, which is the second achievement that game has managed in the last several months.

The new milestone comes not long after it was confirmed the title is now the fighting game with the highest concurrent player count on Steam, has showing that MultiVersus is going to be quite the powerhouse.

I don’t believe that anybody thought that MultiVersus would be as successful has it has been. It is no secret that there have been many attempts to dethrone Smash Bros. over the years as the ultimate party fighting game, and all of them have failed. From Nickelodeon All-Stars to PlayStation All Stars Brawl, no game ever seemed to capture that spark that made Smash Bros. special.

While MultiVersus will probably not dethrone Smash Bros., it does seem to have carved out a nice place for itself in the fighting game community. Perhaps it has been the developers being transparent with the community, as well as the roadmap of new content that is coming down the line.

Maybe it’s the addition of iconic characters like Shaggy and Velma from Scooby-Doo, or that guy Lebron James from Space Jam 2, it seems that this game has been able to capture the hearts of players and has led to an impressive player base.

According to Tracker.gg, MultiVersus has a total playerbase of over 10,857,541 players with, at the time of writing this, 53,417 players currently play on Steam.

What makes this achievement even more impressive is that this has all happened before even the release of Season 1, which will add new ways to play the game, along with balance changes and new characters Rick & Morty.

MultiVersus appears to be here to stay, and I’m all for it. Because, as I’ve said before, I am Niche Gamer’s resident Velma main. MultiVersus is currently in open beta as mentioned above, across Windows PC (via Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
