Activision has dated the Call of Duty: Next stream, a digital event that will feature the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer reveal and lead directly into the open beta that starts on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on 16th September, and on other platforms a week later.
The Modern Warfare 2 open beta will be split across two weekends, The first will be exclusively for PlayStation owners, while the second will be a cross-play beta that features Xbox and PC as well. Each beta weekend also has a couple days of early access for those who pre-order the game or get a beta code from another avenue, before the floodgates are open to all players.
Modern Warfare 2 Open Beta schedule
- PlayStation Early Access – 16th – 17th September
- PlayStation Open Beta – 18th – 20th September
- Xbox & PC Early Access and PlayStation Open Beta – 22nd – 23rd September
- PlayStation, Xbox & PC Open Beta – 24th – 26th September
The Modern Warfare 2 beta will feature both the series’ core 6v6 multiplayer experience, with maps that cater to different sizes and player counts. There will also be a variety of game modes and a good look at the game’s player progression.
One map will be the Marina Bay Grand Prix level, which was previewed at Call of Duty Champs with a fly-through of the level. The maps lets combat take place both within the pitlane and track, as well as part of the urban complex built up around the circuit.
Anyone that plays the beta will earn some in-game rewards for the full game launch, which will be confirmed during Call of Duty: Next.
Call of Duty: Next will also feature more details about Modern Warfare 2 in general, some information on the next Call of Duty: Warzone, and the mobile version of Warzone as well. Activision also promises some secretive new content.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is a sequel to the 2019 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which was a remake of the 2007 hit Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Of course, Modern Warfare already had a sequel in 2009, which was called Modern Warfare 2. This game is a remake of that game in many ways, called Modern Warfare II.
This latest Modern Warfare game will be hitting the shelves on 28th October for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
