Classic Japanese game developer, Sunsoft have announced that they will be launching a livestream event this month.

The new digital event will kick off on August 18th and will reveal some new and upcoming titles that will be published in 2022 and 2023.

Although we have been quiet for some time, many things have been happening behind the scenes,” said Yuichi Ochi, General Manager of SUNSOFT. “We are very excited to be able to finally share our vision for the rebirth of SUNSOFT with fans old and new.”

The upcoming livestream will be held on their official Youtube channel at 1:00pm PST/ 4:00pm EST.

The developer has been in the business of making video games since 1978 with the release of Block Challenger/Galaxy Force. In recent years, they have developed a relationship with Nintendo to rerelease their classic titles, as well as other classic games on the Nintendo virtual console. They have also partnered with companies like Gaijinworks to publish games as well.

Here is an overview of the company itself:

SUNSOFT is the video game division of Japanese electronics manufacturer SUNCORPORATION, established in 1971. In October 1978, SUNSOFT began to develop video games in arcades with two titles, Block Challenger and Block Perfect. We had several arcade hits in the early 1980s such as Arabian, Ikki and Kangaroo. On July 25, 1985 we released the first Famicon (NES) title Super Arabian in Japan under the SUNSOFT brand.

SUNSOFT is known for being a retro-game developer and publisher of such titles as Gimmick! , Blaster Master, Spy Hunter , BATMAN , Tripwprld , Uforia the Saga, etc.

While it’s exactly not known what is coming from the studio, it is probably safe to assume that they are looking to introduce more of their classic library to modern day consoles, perhaps even a PC port or two of some of their best received titles is finally in order. Stay tuned as we report on their livestream when it happens
