Live action Resident Evil Netflix series gets cancelled after 1 season

A new report has confirmed the live action Resident Evil Netflix series was cancelled after just one season.

Netflix cancelled (via Deadline) the live action series roughly a month and a half after it premiered, with some suggesting it performed poorly due to its proximity to the latest Stranger Things season premiere.

Others simply pointed to the series Rotten Tomatoes ratings, which reflect the overall sentiment from both critics and fans at a 55%/27% score, respectively.

Ratings for the show were reportedly decent in its first week at 72.7 million hours, but failed to gain traction in the eyes of Netflix proper, only to completely drop off after its third week.

It seemed like Netflix themselves weren’t even sure how to market the series as they released its first trailer a month prior to its debut.

The Resident Evil Netflix live action series is based on Capcom’s video game series but made numerous changes like race-swapping series villain Albert Wesker, or creating an entirely new story separated from the original films or games’ events.
